Desktop icons slow at loading

  1. This is probably a simple fix for anyone except a numpty like me!! When I log on, the desktop icons take between 4-5 seconds to appear (randomly). I'm sure this is nothing to worry about but it's so annoying. Is there a quick fix to make them appear instantaneously?

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It`s probably nothing to worry about.

Check what processes/programmes run on startup and disable any you don`t want or need.

Click start/run and type msconfig into the run box and press the enter key.

When the window appears, click on the startup tab. You will see a list of processes/programmes that start with windows. Uncheck any you don`t want.

Click apply/ok. you will be prompted to restart your computer. Once your computer has rebooted, you will see a message that says you have used msconfig to make changes etc. Tick the box that says not to run msconfig the next time you start your computer and click ok.

    Regards Howard
