Is the hard disk completely formatted?

Check your XP cd and see if it is scratched.

always include a floppy drive in built computers. They're required for legacy issues like BIOS updates. Besides - they're cheap.

    No

no, my cd isnt scratched, and i used quick format on my hd (would that mean it isnt completely formatted) and also i'm on a very tight budget so i couldnt afford an fdd

Well, a FDD costs 8-9 dlls...

    But they┬┤re mostly crap.

Do you have access to another Xp cd?

Have you checked the bios and made sure that FDD is not first boot device and set the CD Rom as first boot device?

If the os has been installed then you need to enter bios and put your primary hard drive (ide0) as first boot device.
