    and if you read through this whole thing, youll find i will use it to play with.

    not rely on...

    i will probably format it 7 or so times, then exchange it with wd on their 3 year warranty or w/e.

    I have 2 older 80GB Western Digital (WD0800 model) drives attached to my system now and they both have a metalized hi-pitched whine that is driving me crazy... although they are working fine. This whine is very common with WD drives in general. Go Seagate! I just RMA'd a 320GB Maxtor under warranty and Seagate gave me a Seagate 400GB drive in it's place
