Dorm Internet Problem

Yesterday a song just randomly started playing on my laptop. This morning a whole slew of songs have been playing, and they don't stop unless I disconnect from the internet. I'm not connected to a router, so could this be another student's music playing on my computer? Also, how can I fix it?

My first thought is that you have some sort of virus or malware on the machine. You should go to the virus and malware section of this forum and follow the initial instructions (see the 8-step sticky) and report back to those guys how it went.

use <ctl><alt><del> to bring up the task mgr.
click the column heading CPU twice to bring active programs to the top

now look for the processes using cpu cycles; should not be too difficult to guess
which program is producing the play-back.

Then we can start working on WHY and how it got launched.
