I'm trying to decide what would give better performance, Dual Channeled 2x256 DDR400...or Single Channeled 2x256 DDR400 and 512 DDR2100 totalling 1gb RAM. I don't seem to notice much of a difference so far, but I haven't tried much. I figured I'd ask the pros at techspot for advice. :grinthumb

& we are supposed to get your system specs how ? You could be using that Ram on a 600mhz Celeron for all we know. :p

My apologies, wrote the message when I was falling asleep last night. I have a :

    pentium 4 3.01ghz
    120gb 7200 HD
    Windows XP Home
    865PE Gigabyte Motherboard
    Geforce FX 5600
    Soundblaster Audigy 2

Well for one going from a dual channel memory configuration to single channel will already have an impact on performance. From there, installing a PC2100 module will make all your ram modules clock down to 133mhz (266 ddr) so it will be even worse. Stay with the PC3200 for now & later on add two more PC3200 modules. It'll be worth your while.
