hi...
i am having a problem...
in my DVD+RW/-RW writer, the DVD-R discs are unreadable...
where as DVD+R and all other discs are readable....
can anybody plzz help me...

It could be bad disks (happens a lot apparently) or other manufacturing quirks.

What brands have you tried? Have you tried burning at 2x or 4x and then reading ?

DiscInfo:
Will show you the capabilities of your drive.

Download
Unzip
Run
Click on View
Click on Capabilities Info

This will tell you if your drive can read -R
i have checked it out....it says that it is capable for reading and writing DVD-R's

Bad News First......?

My experience has been that drives that will not read a specific disc format are usually suffering with laser (read or write head) alignment problems. Alignment differential between a computer drive and a standalone DVD player is normally what causes discs to lock. (This assuming they are recorded in DVD-Video format)

It might be worthwhile to clean the upper and lower filters even if it works with other dvd's.

Ignore the title, just do what it says:

sorry but the problem still persists...any other alternative...plzzz

Update the drives firmware

Open Disc Info again (Note: download link updated H E R E )
Select your drive (may already be selected)
Click on View
Click on Firmware Updates
Click Search

This will either take you to another webpage with your updated firmware, or directly to your firmware updated file

Once the firmware has been found for your drive, update it. (This can be critical, as the incorrect firmware can stop your drive from working, so make sure)

ya i have tried but the problem arises wen i click search...
wen i click search nothing happens...neither a window opens nor any change in the present window....
by d way i need to tell u...
wen i opened disk info...it says..
Drive region status- lock detected..
does it have any link to the above problem???

Drive region status- lock detected
So does mine
But it's locked (and set) on the correct region for my country

If I wanted to run a disc with a different country code set, I would need to run DVDRegionFree program first.
