In the lead up to the launch of the next Dragon Age game at the end of the year, EA has made the original title, Dragon Age: Origins, free on Origin as part of their On The House program. There are no time limits and no restrictions, just jump onto Origin and claim your free copy of the game, so long as you do so before October 14.

On The House is EA's kind initiative to give PC gamers something for free, even if they have never purchased a game through Origin before. Previously the company has offered Battlefield 3 at no cost, although that promotion has since expired. A separate deal, not part of On The House, allowed Origin users to get The Sims 2 for free earlier this year as well.

Normally a game like Dragon Age: Origins would cost you $20 or so on Origin, so if you haven't played it already, now is the perfect time to do so. The action RPG developed by BioWare is one of my personal favorites from 2009, and even though this giveaway doesn't include the game's DLC, it's still lengthy and engrossing.

On November 18th this year, EA will launch Dragon Age: Inquisition, the third title in the Dragon Age series. It has been built on the Frostbite 3 engine - the same engine used for Battlefield 4 - and will be released on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Been meaning to get this game anyway. Glad I waited, now I don't have to pay for it (until I want the DLC's that is).

Thanks EA, very sweet of you but I'll give it a miss. It's not because I hate you which I do, it's because it's not my kind of game.

EA can literally make origin print money and I'd still be extremely hesitant to install it on my computer again.

There is no good reason not to use steam, they don't have enough good games (any at all) to justify a second content distribution network.
Their stupid complaints about losing the ability to properly handle updates is totally ridiculous since loads of steam games get their updates separately and don't use the internal steam system for that.
Also lmao.. EA doesn't update their games or fix them.

It's a great game. If you don't have any issues with Origin then I'd highly recommend trying the game - it was one of my favs. Just make sure you give it a chance and play for at least a couple hours before making a decision... the story and choices will pull you in pretty deep.

But its free.

I picked this game up in the steam sale last christmas for £5 and it's one of the best games I've ever played. Would strongly recommend (and this is coming from a multiplayer addict who struggles with single player games in terms of interest).

I'm in Russia and EA did all it could to prevent me from using the Origin system, by locking its language to Russian. Not only I know English and always play games or watch movies in their original English language, but I just cannot stand the horrid translations! Imagine you, English speaking people, would have Russian (or Arabic, or Chinese, or Greek) words planted into your language, in Latin letters, instead of finding a suitable English replacement? Wouldn't it be annoying, if not insulting? Well it is for me, and also as much as I support competition as a general concept, I don't think EA is doing anyone any good by competing with Steam the way they do. They do not offer a better product, just pouring money into advertisement and blocking their catalogue from Steam. It's not the kind of competition that improves the end customer's experience, seems more like a waste of resources they could spend on making better games and helping Steam get better. Instead of joining forces, they fight against each other - it's not the road to a better place at all. And on top of that, I'm on a Mac, and I don't like Sim City :)
