A hot potato: Elon Musk has waded into another controversy on the platform he once tried to buy. The world's richest man tweeted a proposal on how to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, and it's brought an angry response from the country's president.

Musk tweeted a poll to his 107.7 million followers asking whether they agree with his solution to the Ukraine/Russia conflict: a redo of the sham elections that took place in occupied areas of Ukraine that led to Putin authorizing their annexation, but this time they are performed under UN supervision, and Russia must leave if it is the will of the people. Additionally, Crimea to formally be part of Russia with its water supply assured, all while Ukraine remains neutral.

With almost 2.5 million votes, just over 60% of participants disagree with Musk's suggestion. The world's richest person notes that what he suggests will likely happen anyway; it's just a question of how many people will die before then. He also raised the possibility of the conflict leading to nuclear war.

The poll has caused a backlash from many politicians and the public. Ukraine's outgoing ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, replied with "F**k off is my very diplomatic reply to you." He noted that no Ukrainian will ever buy "your f…ing tesla crap."

Lithuania's president, Gitanas Naus-da, tweeted, "…when someone tries to steal the wheels of your Tesla, it doesn't make them legal owner of the car or of the wheels. Even though they claim both voted in favour of it. Just saying."

Russian chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov said, "This is moral idiocy, repetition of Kremlin propaganda, a betrayal of Ukrainian courage & sacrifice."

Even the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, hit back at Musk, launching his own poll asking which version of the billionaire people prefer, the one who supports Russia or the one who supports Ukraine.

In a later poll, Musk wrote, "Let's try this then: the will of the people who live in the Donbas & Crimea should decide whether they're part of Russia or Ukraine." Over two million people have voted, with 58.2% choosing yes.

Musk responded to Zelensky's poll, writing that he very much supports Ukraine but is convinced that a massive escalation of the war will cause significant harm to Ukraine and possibly the world. He also highlighted SpaceX's support of Ukraine via the Starlink system, which has cost the company $80 million.

Musk has repeatedly clashed with Russian officials over the 12,000+ SpaceX terminals supplied to Ukraine, which now has well over 150,000 active Starlink users per day. He even tweeted about dying in mysterious circumstances following a veiled threat from Russia's former space chief over the issue. The Tesla boss also offered to fight Vladimir Putin in "single combat" for the future of Ukraine.

Russia warned last month that SpaceX Starlink satellites could become a legitimate target in the war with Ukraine, though Musk claims they can be launched faster than Russia can shoot them down.

I'm with Musk on this one. If the Russian government wants to act like treacherous lunatics, they can get a dose of their own medicine.

I am shocked that the most crucial thing was not even discussed.
A bully that is not stopped keeps being a bully.
Who said these power drunk murderers will stop after Ukraine? Chechnya, Georgia, Ukraine...
They must be crashed, in a military fashion. This is the only way.
Mask must be really naïve if he thinks Russia will be satisfied with having Ukraine.
The easiest way to predict what Russia wants to do next is to study history.
They do one thing, conquer neighbors, turning their countries into a dirty sh**le like Russia is, beside Moscow and St. Petersburg.
These are not people, they are vicious rabid animals.
They torture rape and kill those they get their hands to just like their wild ancestors hundredth of years ago. They must be stopped. And the best way is good weapons that are better than Russian.
How, how can people be so blind? Like it is about Ukraine. It is about turning more lands into Mordor. Baltic countries were the most willing to help Ukraine for this very reason. And just like Hitler had to be stopped, this bloody maniac must be stopped too.

Or, crazy idea here:

Russia gives Ukraine back to Ukraine - and after that happens, THEN if various regions want to annex themselves to Russia (or the population simply moves to Russia) they begin the formal process of doing so.

Russia is still invading a sovereign country. Ukraine needs to get back to square one, and not involved in a regional war before anyone can begin yelling "Let's have elections and slice up this country in the middle of all of this chaos!"

Musk and Trump have one very important thing in common ...... they need to learn to keep their mouth shut, period. Musk needs to focus on all those promises he has made in the past and make a few of them happen before giving out advice. Once he has accomplished ALL of them he might, just might earn enough respect to make him worth listening to ......

IMO, Musk needs to learn that being the richest person in the world does not mean that he is the smartest person in the world.

Beyond any doubt, IMO.

Lots of people simply don't get this. Tolerate the bully, and the bully will continue to be a bully. Putin is a bully. His efforts to conscript 300,000 additional "military" forces are failing badly, and like all bullies that are beaten, Putin is blaming everyone else except the right person - himself. Putin is playing a very dangerous game and needs to be stopped before its too late.

As long as people don't understand that both camps work hand in hand against their real enemy, us, the peoples of the world, it will continue for a while. The whole purpose of this war and of the last plannedemic is nothing else than to crush peoples economies and liberties. Why do you think all these events last so long ? To squeeze as much money and liberties out of us as possible. The best proof of it is the inflation that we already feel and the much worse one to come.

Happy for you.

So, you are just excited when ruzzian so called soldiers rape, torture and kill Ukrainian children, women and men. Or do you prefer how brave rf troops burn cities to the ground? You must really admire putin and other mass murder psychopaths.
I'd say most educated Russians do not support the war, nor do they really care until compulsory conscription begins. The others are brainwashed with a type of right wing nationalism, a disease that is currently sweeping also the people in the West. Moreover, let's not forget, Putin's Russia is a police state, so saying anything means jail or worse. One thing I can say, I don't see Putin bringing war on his people home, they will shoot him first. For all their legendary endurance, the Russians today in the big cities are not the uneducated peasants that took the brunt of the WWII. Sure, Putin can still get a lot of dirt poor ready to loot conscripts, but it takes time to train them and a lot have been butchered already in Ukraine. Stalin was able to turn the tide with abhorrent measures, resources and money from the West, but most significantly, the people's will to defend their country. It's a completely different story now. Nobody attacked Russia. The talking of nukes is nonsense. One bad move and Russia is razed, even if targets in the West will also be hit. Nobody wins, game over, humanity. Unfortunately, nukes are Putin's last ace in hand and he knows how to play the game. We'll see who will blink first. Oh, yeah and Musk? A muppet telling you Dogecoin will be worth zillions among other stupidities is someone you can take seriously just because he's filthy rich?

Biden is a psycho too. At war all of them being involved are completely nuts. Now Biden, Putin, hysterics Truss and so on, little by little, are taking us to WW3.
I'm from an underdeveloped country in the west, which has never been a criminal country as the likes of Russia, Germany, England, USA and similar crap. So, my conscience is in peace.

Since the start of the war, there were supposed to be talks between two sides about how to end it multiple times, but nothing came of it. I am really suspicious any of these people in power actually want peace.

The probem with this approach is that you'd have to convince everyone, particularly Ukraine, that Putin and his regime would negotiate in good faith and hold to any agreements made. Such an agreement could also hold NATO to specific positions - that in of itself is likely to lead to an escalation.

I also think it's nieve to assume that it would be possible to hold any kind of free elections in the occupied regions, even if Russia agreed to UN supervision, which is highly unlikely anyway.

I admire Elon Musk. He's a remarkable entraprenur. He just has a habit of using his platform - on twitter in particular - to comment about things about which he has at best a couch level expertise. And whether he means it or not, his wealth implies an agenda. You be out of your mind to take someone like that at face value, and I'm sure he'd be the first to acknowledge that.

"Andriy Melnyk, replied with "F**k off is my very diplomatic reply to you."

He meant to say Fart Off...!

Naaa, Elon is simply checking how many bots there are on twitter, so he can pay less, or not pay at all.

Maybe he read this research from the University of Adelaide (Australia) where they says that up to 80% of the accounts in the Russia/Ukraine discussions were/are bots. the article is titled:

"#IStandWithPutin versus #IStandWithUkraine: The interaction of bots and humans in discussion of the Russia/Ukraine war"

Reading the article, it is interesting that they come to the conclusion that the pro-Ukrainian accounts (bots or not) mostly had relationships or flows with other pro-Ukrainian accounts (bubbles), and bot accounts are the most influential (often appealing to emotional factors). Meanwhile, the pro-Russia had varied and open flows and the non-bot had more influence (it seems at odds with what the media and politicians say about the sm bots, right?).
