    i bought guitar pro 5.
and when i try to download it.. it does most of the download process. then the thing says.

    error creating registration key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gp5

    RegCreateKeyEx failed. code 5

what does this mean and what can i do to make it work.
please dont get super technical. im not really familiar with super complex computer stuff.

    i hope that made sense..

The error means that you do not have the right to create this registry key.
Do you have administrative rights on this computer? As a rule, only administrators are allowed to install software.

    well yeah.
    its my computer.
    i should.

That doesn't mean you have Admin rights. lol

check Users in Control Panel (smarty pants :) )

how to check u r admin or not?
    just follow this spep
control pane>user account>(see ur name as) ewkelsie computer administrator.

    ok i looked.
    i am an administrator.

    so now what..

Try the Repair Permissions tool in Dial-a-fix. This problem is usually caused by malware targeting the application, but Norton Antivirus has been known to cause it by breaking the permissions of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, as well.

    You can also go to:
    Start--> Run--> Regedit

    Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    Then click on Permissions
    Confirm Full Control is ticked

By the way, do not edit/change anything else in registry, other than the above.

Please reply back with if one of these two options helped you
This will help us better in helping others too.

    yes!
    thank you!!

    i did dial-a-fix.
    and i got it installed.

Hmm 1 out of every 100 or so fixed, that helps !
Actually I'd like to think it's 100% out of every 1 (but that may be a bit too silly)

Good news :) Thanks for the reply
