Excel cursor issue

I received an Excel file that was scanned and had no viruses. When I open the file, my cursor stays anchored in the cell I click on and automatically begins selecting cells as I move the mouse around. The only way I can get out is to escape and close out Excel from the bottom toolbar. How can I stop Excel from doing this?

Are you only having problems with excel? It sounds to me like your SHIFT key is stuck, or maybe CTRL. But if it is only in excel, then I'm not sure what to say. Maybe try reinstalling/repairing it?

    Exactly the same problem.

I also have the same problem, but it seems to come and go. No virus detected with two separate virus checkers (not running simultaneously, of course). I ran the file with the problem on my 602suite spreadsheet, and it worked okay, Then saved it and reopened it with Excel, and the problem was gone (for awhile). It came back later on another file. Seems to recur at random every few weeks, and not always on the same file. Curious and frustrating!
