Ive finally finished my new build!
My final specs are:

Asus P5LD2 SE Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ CPU with Hyper Threading
ARCTIC FREEZER PRO 7 CPU Cooler
Corsair XMS2-5400 DDR2 2GB RAM
Western Digital Caviar 320GB SATAII HDD
Galaxy GeForce 7900GT 256MB Graphics Card
Lite-On Lightscribe Dvd-Ram

Thanks to all those who helped and guided me through this!
Ps whats the average temperature of an Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ CPU with Hyper Threading?

Cheers
Allan

Cool. I don't know what the avg. temps are, but these processors do tend to run hotter than some. maybe 60-70 c, IDK.

Well thats funny because Asus Pc Probe tells me that its running at an average of about 30 degrees celcius... Maybe its the cooler that ive got. ARCTIC FREEZER PRO 7. Oh well the cooler the better.
Thanks!

They often run in the high 30s idle with good cooling ( i am assuming this is a 6xx series chip) So your cooler is doing a great job.

Congrats on the build!!! :D

Well, I hate to tell you this but you bought into seriously outdated processor, maybe never it was the king? A64 beat it now core 2 duo beats A64.

F1N3ST: I know there are better processors than this one but here in New Zealand there is no way I could afford that sort of money!!!!!

AtK SpAdE: Thanks, I swapped the Atctic Freezer out for the stock cooler as it was blocking the CPU cable and the temperature difference was about 7C idle!!
When you say 6**, I think it is an EM64T.

This build gets a 3DMark of 4086! Compared to the family Dell Dimension 9100 which only gets 477! I think theres something wrong!

Cheers

average temp for my P4 is about 30-44 (depending on how hot the day is - aussie summer) and thats with a zalman cooler running silent (1344-1743 RPM)
if i have my cooler running faster, then i can get about 26-34 sometimes, but too noisy. Stock P4 fan also too noisy for me.

So whats the something thats wrong?

If you think its a slightly under-performing system or a bit slow, then you might want to look at optimizing your PC. Clean up start items, dead registry keys, drivers etc. the usual stuff.

If its running hot then look at your cooling gear and airflow or otherwise.

your pc is better spec'd than mine (apart from HDD :D), and your mobo you chose gives you the option to upgrade to a core 2 duo CPU sometime in the future when you have the funds..
