First computer build, does this look like a good build?

A solid 550w is certainly NOT pushing it with a 7950, it'll even run on a Rosewill Capstone 450w (though that would be "pushing it").
My choice would be the platinum

Heck, maybe a lot of PSUs are made by the same OEM, but I am gonna say only go with XFX, Seasonic, and Corsair. The warranties are just better. Also, what if he wants to SLI in the future? PSUs dont have to be replaced often, so I would just go for whats best.
