  1. hello,

just a quick note, when i boot up my pc and when the post bios startup screen comes on the message "floppy disks fail (40)" message apprears, i then have the option to comtinue into windows by pressing F1. The floppy drive is detected in device manager and in my computer and apprears to be working.

yes..... i know this is a minor fault and i could remove my disconnect my floppy drive or disable it in the bios but wondered why this problem is occuring!

does anybody know why this is happening!

    any helpful sugestions appriciated.

Can Windows actually read floppies with that drive?

Maybe you hooked up the floppy cable wrong (often the plugs go in either way and it does matter which plug goes where) or the cable has just become loose or you have set the wrong type of floppy drive in the BIOS or configured the second floppy drive (which you don't have).
