Floppy failure!?!

when i start up my pc, and it gets to the bios point, i get the message
"floppy disks fail (40)", and have to press F1 to continue.
i get this no matter which floppy drive i use.

does anyone reading have any helpful suggestions?

Make sure the floppy cable is securely connected on the motherboard end. I know you've reconnected the floppy end. If that doesn't help, I would try a new floppy cable. If that doesn't work, for some reason maybe the floppy controller on the motherboard died.

Yes motherboard floppy controllers do go bad. If Mailpup's suggestions don't work, disable the floppy in the bios. Floppy drives are no longer necessary. You can get by without one
