Floppy not recognised

I just bought a pack of floppy disks...yes I know floppy disks, to install xp on an older laptop. Anyway vista doesn't want to reconise the floppy's. I know there was a problem like this in XP and there was a simple registry hack to fix it, but I can't remember it, can anyone help me?
