Welcome to TechSpot! I'll be glad to help, but logs must be pasted into the replies.

My Guidelines: please read and follow:
  • Be patient. Malware cleaning takes time and I am also working with other members while I am helping you.
  • Read my instructions carefully. If you don't understand or have a problem, ask me.
  • If you have questions, or if a program doesn't work, stop and tell me about it. Don't try to get around it yourself.
  • Follow the order of the tasks I give you. Order is crucial in cleaning process.
  • File sharing programs should be uninstalled or disabled during the cleaning process..
  • Observe these:
    [o] Don't use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you.
    [o] Don't use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.
    [o] Don't download and install new programs- except those I give you.
  • Please let me know if there is any change in the system.

If I don't get a reply from you in 5 days, the thread will be closed. If your problem persist, you can send a PM to reopen it.
=====================================
You don't need to paste the Malwarebyes log in, but please paste in DDS. There is a second log for DDS named Attach.txt. That is a name not an instruction, so paste it in and do not zip it.

This is what we require to begin: Please follow the steps in the Preliminary Virus and Malware Removal thread HERE.

NOTE: If you already have any of the scanning programs on the computer, please remove them and download the versions in these links.

When you have finished, leave the logs for review in your next reply .
NOTE: Logs must be pasted in the replies. Attached logs will not be reviewed.

Please do not use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you, unless I direct you to. Do not use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.

part 2

and there is no part 2. i get the same internet error when trying to upload the remaining 10 pages. i even tried to do it by 1, 2, 3 pages per post and it did not work. Awaiting your counsel

Stop! I checked the pasted DDS.txt log. The reason it's so large is because you have a full set of entries for 32 bit and another full set of entries for 64bit. I don't know how you could run both, duplicates if everything at the same time!

The system is only 2 months old. Did someone set it up for you? You can't run all the processes for everything! At some point, the system will crash. You still have all the Dell junk which you need to remove. But is there anyone who can help you get the system configured correctly?

Before we get into that, you must remove this from the Trusted Zone
Trusted Zone: internet- you've put the entire internet in the zone with the lowest security settings! The Internet has it's own zone.
Open Internet Options in the Control Panel> Security tab> Trusted Sites> Sites> highlight and remove the internet> OK> Apply> OK

You don't need McAfee there either: Trusted Zone: mcafee.com
===============================
This is a new one for me: NoVirusThanks It appears to be an 'anti rootkit and anti malware programs. The program name is actually the home site name where they offer a multitude of programs.
Another claim is NoVirusThanks is a Free Multi-Engine Anti-Virus Files Scanner
==========================================

Ok so this is brand new computer from Dell and the only things I've done to it before was a system restore. Not sure if thats what could of caused it but i can call up dell and have them check that piece out.

As far as the trusted zones- applied changes per your instructions.

Do you want me talk to Dell about the duo configuration before you proceed with other instructions.?

If you are still in the warranty period, it would be best to contact Dell. They may be able to do a remote assist and help configure the system. I can tell you that the system will heartily complain in the not to distant future about carrying such a heavy load. As you surf and add temporary internet files and updates, the system resources are going to deplete and the system will freeze.

After the Dell contact, come back here and I'll give you a program to remove unneeded Dell pre-loads. All m systems have been from Dell and I spend the first 2 days getting rid of their junk.

Another thing to be aware of- Dell is very tight in how much RAM they install. They frequently offer a free update at time of purchase. Check the system and let me know how much RAM it has.
Control Panel> System> System Properties page> should show on bottom right of page.

Tell me why you did the System Restore on 8/25?.

Bobbye im back. So Dell didnt care. Apparently they no longer support software issues like they use as part of their warranty and want to charge for a check. They basically told me you were wrong and at that point i just stopped working with them. I did however do a image system restore to original state. i dont have important docs/music/programs so i didnt care.

to your questions
Why did a system restore? Well this computer was actually bought a little under a year ago. Its used by my niece. She was getting startup issues and system resotre was not helping so i did an image restore. That was done with an option to save files/documents. Im guessing thats why you saw 32 and 64 bit.. probably not im not sure. Well anyways it ran good for about 2 months and then my niece told me she was having start up issues and redirect issue. i did the system restore which fixed the start up issues but redirect remained.

Now that i have done an image restore the logs look short but yes i still have redirect issue.

will post new logs on reply - if it allows me :)

Please disable NoVirus Thanks Malware Remover for now. This is only the 2nd time I've seen this program. Their description exceeds what it actually does. I may recommend uninstalling it, but I don't want it removing anything now. Please take it off of Startup.

Sorry Dell gave you the heave-ho! I should have remembered that they distance themselves from software- even though they installed it! Now we have to figure out what the Session Manager is 'pending.'!

Please note: If you have previously run Combofix and it's still on the system, please uninstall it. Then download the current version and do the scan: Uninstall directions, if needed
  • Click START> then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
--------------------------------------
Download Combofix from HERE or HEREhttp://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe and save to the desktop
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. It is recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode if needed.
    **Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
  • Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:
    The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
  • .Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware
  • .If Combofix asks you to update the program, allow
  • .Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • .Close any open browsers.
  • .Double click combofix.exe
    cf-icon.jpg
    & follow the prompts to run.
  • When the scan completes , a report will be generated-it will open a text window. Please paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply..
Re-enable your Antivirus software.

Note 1:Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Note 2: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
Note 3: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell your helper.
Note 4: CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Note 5: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", restart computer to fix the issue.
=======================================
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.

    [o] Double click on the
    esetSmartInstallDesktopIcon.png
    on your desktop.
  • Check 'Yes I accept terms of use.'
  • Click Start button
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    esetonlinescannersettings_thumb.jpg
  • Uncheck 'Remove found threats'
  • Check 'Scan archives/
  • Leave remaining settings as is.
  • Press the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please wait for the scan to finish.
  • When the scan completes, press List of found threats
  • Push Export of text file and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Paste this log in your next reply.
  • Push the Back button
  • Push Finish

NOTE: If no malware is found then no log will be produced. Let me know if this is the case.

Hopefully one or both of these will help us out!

You asked me to disable the NoVirus Thanks Malware Remover but its not in my programs nor in my startup. I did a ctrl F from my recent logs and didnt find it. Can you help with those intructions.

The ESET scan came back with nothing so no log to post

Here is the log for Combofix.

Thank you for your patience! I was working from the board and missing the thread which went over to page 2> I am very sorry about that.

Please clarify what is happening when you say you have the 'google redirect'> I've found 2 occurrences from others such as 'can't find server' that some are describing as redirects, but they are not.
=======================================
The only entry of any significance so far is the PendingFilename Opertions in GMER with a gazillion ???
Do you have something set up in this?
==========================================
Entries I've noticed:
Located in C:\Program Files, Mswinext.exe is designed to monitor programs. It is not a windows system file, but by it's nature, mswinext.exe is a good target of various PC threats. Once the virus takes control of this file, it can send data on open ports to a third party.

This process is also a high resource user. If you have notices a slowing down or crashing during a program< this could be a reason. They occur in the entries below- would you like me to remove them?

These is also a plugin in Firefox.
=================================================
I will remove the NoVirusThanks Malware Remover Free Startup when I give you some script to run through Combofix. I see it in the DDS log.
================================================
Please take both of these domains out of the Trusted Zone> now! You have the entire interner in this zone where the security is set lower. The internet has a zone all it's own. Nothing needs to be in the Trusted Zone:
Access Internet Options> Security tab> Trusted Sites> Sites> highlight and remove both of there:
Trusted Zone: internet
Trusted Zone: mcafee.com
================================================
So far, I can't find anything to be called malware.

Bobbye, there is no problem at all and truthfully i was scared i was going to be scolded for checking on status! Your assitance is very well appreciated so no problem at all.:)

To address your first question yes it redirects. The site that mosst often comes first is
Edit to remove redirect hyperlink
followed by
Edit to remove redirect hyperlink

There are more but those are the main ones. As far as removing those programs you feel needful please by all means you have my authorization. Now i went back and checked the DDS file and still dont see that program. Also i checked my trusted sites and there are no sites in the trusted zone. I remember changing those already from a previous post i gave you.

Just to make sure i am posting the last DDS file i have

============= FINISH: 20:59:19.25 ===============

I remove the 2 hyperlinks for the redirects. Just wanted to make of what was happening.

Did you notice my question about this?
The only entry of any significance so far is the PendingFilename Opertions in GMER with a gazillion ???
Do you have something set up in this?

I went back and reviewed the logs and noticed this:
i did an image restore. That was done with an option to save files/documents.

I wonder if that's where you stashed the files you saved. I also notice these 2 directories;
2011-09-01 21:20 -------- d-----w- c:\users\Kenya
2011-09-01 21:11 . 2011-09-01 21:11 -------- d-----w- C:\Emergency

I can open the directories with script but I don't like to do that when I have no idea of the contents- it can make for a very lengthy 'look'! Perhaps you can give me info on what has been put in them. I don't need a lot of details.

Before I remove some entries with the script, I'd like to check for a rootkit:
  • Download the file TDSSKiller.zip and save to the desktop.
    (If you are unable to download the file for some reason, then TDSS may be blocking it. You would then need to download it first to a clean computer and then transfer it to the infected one using an external drive or USB flash drive.)
  • Right-click the tdsskiller.zip file> Select Extract All into a folder on the infected (or potentially infected) PC.
  • Double click on TDSSKiller.exe. to run the scan
  • When the scan is over, the utility outputs a list of detected objects with description.
    The utility automatically selects an action (Cure or Delete) for malicious objects.
    The utility prompts the user to select an action to apply to suspicious objects (Skip, by default).
  • Select the action Quarantine to quarantine detected objects.
    The default quarantine folder is in the system disk root folder, e.g.: C:\TDSSKiller_Quarantine\23.07.2010_15.31.43
  • After clicking Next, the utility applies selected actions and outputs the result.
  • A reboot is required after disinfection.

Please leave the log.

1. I dont have anything set up in GMER with a gazzilion.
2. the emergency file is where the original documents were stored when i did an image restore with saved documents.
3. I ran the rootkit. It did not find any files so i didnt see the exact steps as you had mentioned. It did however ask me to reboot. When i did that the computer was not able to start up anylonger.The computer tried to do fix the start up issue but it didnt fix it. Also i tried a system restore it various save points but it keeps giving me an error 0x8000ffff. Shall i do an image restore?

Boot into Safe Mode
  • Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.
  • Select the Safe Mode option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.

To perform a system restore follow the instructions below:

1) Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list.If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
2) In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
3) In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
4) Click Finish.

The startup issue is also not allowing me to boot in safe mode. After i click on safe mode it restarts the pc so it does not go to safe mode. I also tried going to last known good configuration and it does the same. The only thing i haven't tried is the image restore. What do u recommend?
