Being able to customize your Android device is one of the operating system's best elements, but for some people, browsing various wallpapers, icon packs, etc. to find something they like can be a laborious process. Now, Google has launched a new tool to make the process of customizing your Android home screen a whole lot simpler.

The #myAndroid website offers a “taste test” that asks a series of quick-fire questions to determine what kind of home screen setup is best suited to your tastes and needs. It asks stuff like your Android skill level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), and various preferences, such as multicolor or monochromatic palette, and organic or geometric shapes.

Once you’ve answered them all – it should only take about a minute for all 10-15 question - you’re presented with the wallpaper, icon pack, widgets, launcher, and keyboard that Google thinks are best suited to your tastes, interests and skill level. Each one includes a link that takes you to the item’s Google Play store entry, allowing a quick installation.

The website appears to work well; a couple of suggestions Google offered me are already on my device, and the others looked appealing enough for me to install them. Even if you’re an experienced Android user, it’s worth giving #myAndroid a try – you could discover something new.

Being a Google tool, the site often promotes some of its own products, such as Gboard. And remember that if you’re not too impressed with your results, just try taking the test again and altering a couple of your answers.

I have already highly customized my Android homescreen... so I went to check this out to see how close it guessed based on my answers to their questions. And, it was pretty damn close, actually.

I don't see any way to actually send this configuration to my phone. There also aren't in install buttons for the components as the article mentions, at least not in Firefox.

Can it remove that large search bar at the top though which takes valuable screen space?

That site refuses to work for me, clicking the "Lets go" button 1 million times does nothing at all.

I use Nova launcher on my phone to kill that stupid search bar across the top of the screen.

They recommend various launchers most of which let you customize it or get rid of it entirely, so yeah.
Yeah, my bad, I haven't actually understood the article fully before accessing that website or posting the comment. I am a big customization freak, loving widgets on Android. I can go with a custom keyboard (actually bought the Go keyboard) but hate the launchers - have no issue with the stock Android theme, except for that nasty looking search bar which I cannot get rid off without installing a custom launcher or rooting the phone. And it takes valuable estate from my screen without doing anything useful at all. I disabled that abomination called Google Now, but that search bar is still there. Oh well ... Buy Nexus phone they said ... it is very customisable they said. I actually used to own phones which where much more customisable than nexus.
