Graphic card trouble on D845GLVA!

MY friend has a intel d845glva mb with on board graphic! it fairly new pc!

now he wanted better graphic so bought a radeon 9250 pci 256mb cuz theres no agp on the mb.

now wen he connects it and plugs it in to the moniter and all he get is black screen. but wen he reconnects the moniter to the onboard vga it displays again!

what could be the problem?

Intel Onboard Graphics And New Radeon 9250

I have a compaq presario with onboard graphics and I installed a rad 9250-I disabled the onboard plugged the monitor into the new one and everything worked fine until I turned it off and restarted and it recognized the old board again. the computer froze. I had to pull the new card and plug the monitor into the old slot. I've already put it into bios PCI so by all rights it shouldn't recognize the old board. Can I turn automatic hardware detection off? Or any toher suggestions.
