HDD Compression.......on older computers. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Should everything be removed except the operating system and then compressed and what are the pro's and con's to doing this?

    Slow slow slow slow.....

A larger hard drive is the only option if you want to keep what little performance you may have from an older system. :)

Compression saves disk space at the cost of CPU time.

HD compression is bad! It's slow and dangerous (your OS dies - your data dies, a bad sector - lots of data gone, corrupt metadata - all data gone and no way to recover)

If it's an old computer you are better off getting yourself some old hard drives for no or very little money and begging that they don't die very soon.
