Hdmi connection

Hello,
Sony KDL-32R410b TV has only two hdmi inputs , one is HDMI MHL other is HDMI ARC.
I have a dvd player with a regular plug HDMI output.I do not own a receiver compatible with the ARC function.
My question is if I can connect my dvd player to ARC TV HDMI socket. In this case it is possible to damage the TV?
Thank you.

Background:
what the heck is MHL? Think of it as a technology that turns a common MicroUSB cable into an HDMI cable, but with a few special features. MHL stands for Mobile High-definition Link, and it's the brainchild of a group of companies—including Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba—that wanted a specification that could be used to connect smart phones, tablets, and other devices to an HDTV.

HDMI 1.4 introduces two features called ARC (audio return channel) and HEC (HDMI Ethernet channel).

If it were my equipment, I would contact Sony customer support.
Only time I asked for some help in a shop (Sony Center) they knew the answer and gave me a card with more contact details if needed, and I didn't even buy anything.
Would hope you would find the same.
