HDMI to TV - "unsupported mode"?

I'm trying to connect my tv to my comp through HDMI.
The tv says "unsupported mode". Are there display setting I should change on my computer? I'm using windows 7.

yes u need to probably change the resolution first...please tell the resolution of your tv (1080p or 720p) and also the resolution of the monitor. If ur computer is set to a resolution higher than what the TV can display, then it will say that its unsupported (that is only if the TV cannot downscale the signal) ....Also, the refresh rate should match that of the TV..

please check the refresh rate too. give me the model of your tv anad graphics card.
