asus a7n8x-x nforce2 bug fixed! :giddy:

Even if new bios is quite safe, my last night's experiences might be useful for someone.

The blackout came with "Uber bios 1007", fsb200, vcore 2,675, on an exactly 1 year + 1 day old (guarantee just expired!) asus a7n8x-x mobo.

    Ideas from different forums:
    - cmos clear jumper
    - take off cmos battery for a night
    - set fsb jumper to "200 only"
    - change agp video card to an old pci one
    - unplug chassis fan
    - power up the machine with "insert" button pressed
    - remove all extention cards but video
    - boot with another cpu

    What did not help:
1., neither cmos clear, nor removing the battery
2., setting jumper to "200 only"
3., I did not find the good old pci video card
    4., I have only 1 cpu (athlon xp 1800+)
5., power up with "insert" pressed (the keybord was not even powered!)

What still did not help: a combination of
1., set fsb jumper to "200 only" AND
    2., unplug chassis fan AND
3., remove all extention cards but video AND
4., unplug HDD and CD drives AND
5., start the machine with "insert" button pressed

Finally I put the RAM in the second bank, and together with the above combination, Bios deigned to boot in safe mode (fsb 100 and all settings at bios default).
Now the system is running smoothly at fsb 166, leaving all possible settings at "optimal".

    Advices:
    - if you want to keep your wife peaceful, use bios rev.1010 from asus website! Even if offering less features than Uber, that firmware bios is bug-free. If OC goes wrong, it always posts, at least.
    - as Didou wrote: never use "save and exit" if you change more than one setting at a time. Save first, then exit!

    Acknowledgements:
many thanx to all who shared either successful or unsuccessful experiences: this is a great thread !

    no video output

at first, the floppy wasn't working; i tested another floppy, it worked. So, I uninstalled the old floppy and replace it with the tested working one. Now, I can't get the video to show up. Nothing. The computer beeps once proving that it passed POST. I unplugged the ram, it beeped long and repeatedly. Try doing the "insert" key and plug in. Still, the video does not show up. The video output is from the MOBO; so I can't test with another video card. What can be the problem? Thanks alot

when i turn the computer on, the monitor clicks...telling there's a signal ???
