When I bought my computer it had all programs installed. Now it wont download service pack 3 and I dont have a validation key. What can I do other than purchasing a new copy?

If the system had SP1, SP2 and all the updates since SP2, you do not need SP3.

You can get the product key by using the Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com), or the Everest Home Edition 220 Free edition from
    www.download3k.com/System-Utilities/Benchmark-Utilities/Download-EVEREST-Home-Edition.html - 33k -
Either will help you. If your copy of Windows is not a legal version, using a product ID used elsewhere on other machines may cause difficulties.
But you likely have no reason on earth to use SP3. It is simply more trouble than it is worth. If you have the other Windows updates, you do not need this SP-3
