    Did you notice that most of the innovation happened due to the absence of patents (or reasonable patents)?

    What would happen if people like Douglas Engelbart in 1968 decided to patent mouse, ?what you see is what you get? editing, text and graphics displayed on a single screen, shared-screen videoconferencing, outlining, windows, version control, context-sensitive help, hyperlinks and computer generated slides?
