I can see the driver data listed. See if the device is displayed in Device Manager.
    > Open Device Manager (see HERE).
    > Scroll down to and expand the Image category by clicking the + sign to its left. Is your webcam listed? (i think it might be named "Acer Orbicam"). Do you see any yellow icons appear with any devices?

Also, please list any Problem Devices
    • Make sure devices are connected and powered on
    • Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
    • Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
    • If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
    • On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so

This is an old cam. There's only a driver for XP. Go to Sonix site HERE. Click to download the XP driver on that page. If you run vista or Win 7 you'll probably need to get a new cam

no :( there's nothing on problem devices

Per my last post, you should still look in Device Manager to see if your cam appears under the Image or an Other device category. Here's why...

By default, Device Manager only displays devices that Windows can currently detect. So, if you can't find the cam listed in Device Manager then it's probably failed (or it's turned off if it has a power on/off switch). Based on the driver data you posted earlier, if the cam's detected I believe it will appear in Device Manager named "Acer Orbicam" and would appear in the Image device category. If it's not there it's not working :(

I searched in the FIND thingy and I found something in Software Environment-System drivers there are a bunch of other things as well but there's one that is acer orbicam.nothing happens if I click on it so perhaps I should do something else?

    Stefi

The only place worth checking is Device Manager to see if your web cam is listed. If it is not listed then it's either turned off (if it has an on/off switch) or it is broken and you need to buy a new cam.

    > Open Device Manager (click HERE for instruction)
    > Look for the "Imaging Devices" category (see example below). Click the + sign to expand it.
    > Is your cam listed?

In example, you can see a cam listed. If no cam is listed, it's probably broken and you need a new one (the driver is loaded but that does no good if the web cam is broken)
    /* edit */
p.s. if you can't even find an Imaging device category in Device Manager, that means Windows can't find any imaging devices on your computer and your cam is not detected or listed. You can also look if an "Other" category exists. if it does, also look there for any cam.

    @stefi

If the cam is appearing in Device Manager it's detected. You can try re-installing its driver but otherwise, sorry, i'm stumped :( To check for the driver, you can try MSI's Live Update tool can find HERE

    @shawri21
I think this is a vimicro 301 cam. Look at THIS page. Rather then trying to guess the driver for you
    > Try the vimicro detection tool link on that page
    > I'm guessing it should give you more detail on which one of the vimicro drivers to choose

    help

    Hi LookingAround

I've been browsing through these pages and tried following some suggestions and yet all were unsuccessful.

    1) The hardware is fine (i think) because it works fine on my laptop but the problem is that I want to install it on my desktop. It says the device is working properly

    2) After install, uninstalling, reinstalling the driver (from the cd it came with) all I get is a black/green picture

    3) I can't seem to find a suitable driver, even after scouring the web using the hardware id/compatible id. I've even went to the website of the manufacturer and downloaded the amcap driver but to no avail.

I really, really hope you can help me on this. Thanks very much.

Not an old webcam, just bought this year
Model: APC1700 (i compared some pictures of the webcam and those on the website and this looked the most similar) from AVF:Ultimate Technology

    Hardware ID :USB\VID_1E4E&PID_0803&REV_0002&MI_00
    USB\VID_1E4E&PID_0803&MI_00

    Nothing on problem devices

    Another thing:
under driver details the driver files listed are: XXXX/system32/XXX but right now my windows 7 is 64 bit (my comp used to be vista before being upgraded to 7)

I still have the box, manual and everything and it says its compatible with windows 7 and vista

I tried Driver Guide but there is no result. I installed DriverEasy to to find drivers but for the webcam they don't indicate a lack of driver for imaging devices.

I even tried getting drivers from Dell and Asus laptops to install in the desktop but that doesn't do the trick either.

    Please help. Thanks

    Hi Cam33

I applaud your effort. Looks like you've already done quite a bit of work on this problem! Unfortunately, i can't find any driver for that hardware id either :(

    A couple questions
    1) What version of Windows is on the laptop that works? is it 32 or 64 bit?

    2) And something to check and compare between the cam drivers on both your laptop and desktop.

On each computer, open Device Manager, rt click the cam, Properties->Details. In the pull down menu, scroll down to and select Matching ID. This will tell us which ID the driver matches. I wonder if your desktop is using the Windows 7 64bit generic driver. Maybe Windows doesn't like the driver from the CD so it's not selecting it.

    1) 64-bit os on laptop

    2) Matching device id on laptop: usb\class_0e
    on desktop: usb\class_0e

Eh, looks like it's the same for both

p/s: for the laptop, I did not install the driver from the cd as I was using the drivers for the integrated webcam.

If only out of curiosity you might also look at Properties->Driver, to see the Driver Provider, Date and Version # to also see what driver is being used (and if the provider is Microsoft it's the generic driver)

But that's purely a curiosity question. I'm sorry i don't have any good answers or a solution for your web cam problem other then probably needing to get a new one :( :( :(
  16. Cam33 Newcomer, in training

    Provider: Microsoft
    Version: 6.1.7601.17514
    Assembly Date: 21/6/2006 8:00:00 AM

It's okay...will probably change it then ...though it is kinda a shame as the quality of video (when tested with the laptop) is pretty decent.

    Thanks for everything anyway :)

Out of curiosity, do you think maybe the problem lies with my desktop system (processor etc) or something?
  18. LookinAround TechSpot Chancellor Posts: 7,677   +39

It's really hard to say one way or the other. There's nothing to indicate the computer hardware is at fault for any compatibility issue/problem. But not knowing might be a good reason to go with a "brick and mortar" store to get a cam you can try and at least easily return if it still is a problem. G;luck
  19. Cam33 Newcomer, in training

Incidently it was from an actual store and it worked when the IT guy installed it on his computer. Asking for an explanation is pretty difficult when they just shrug and say that it's just a software problem. =.=

Anyway, I discovered that it works perfectly fine on my other desktop system which runs on vista so everything's satisfactory now.

    Thanks.
