Was this info for me? I have 620 not a 610 not sure if they are the same.

Inspiron, Latitude, or XPS? Please give model number so we don't have to go to the Dell site to look up everything. If you do not do your own homework, nobody is going to be interested in helping you.
Also, where bought, when. What you have already tried? Are you the original owner? How did the password error occur? Have you talked to Dell?

Hey bonehead1 did you forget the password or did you buy a stolen laptop? If you did, you are a bonehead for sure

God sake TM, you're having a bad day I feel !

You cannot call members names, or abuse them in anyway whatsoever
Please edit your post immediately (and then I'll edit out your comments I quoted)
Or you will be reported (for the 2nd time today)

I did not select the name for bonehead1. You need to pay more attention... and reported for what? Asking for more information?

Be careful Tmagic, there is a fine line that you can cross and get banned. You have been around long enough and with that in mind I have tried not to care too much about your recent posts.

The Chip is on the bottom of the motherboard just to the left of DIMM 1.
Damn I can't work out if this is 6400 as well. It would be good if others replied

I will have to get my old equipment out, but I do not recollect the D520, D620, and the D820 having the same one.
In my notes, I have it down that the D620 is unique to the others in that series.
I do have it in the back of my mind that all three impossibly difficult, and that Dell could not supply the password disk when a motherboard had to be replaced... that I had to ship them into RoundRock or Illinois.

    More later.

it is a Latitude d620 I bought it from some people moving out of state. I have tried the password gen that is available but obviously that does not work. Have not called Dell as I do not have any info for previous owner. It would not be a big deal but i cannot change boot up options so all it does is boot from the hd only, need to boot from cd so I can install a new os. Sorry for not giving you all this info.
  18. raybay TechSpot Evangelist Posts: 10,720   +6

You do not need info on previous owner. Just say you are the new owner and fill out the form
  19. Tmagic650 TS Ambassador Posts: 18,736   +62

Yes we here this story over and over... Just call Dell and wait 21 days for the new registration to take affect... Why the passwords are in effect, I don't know. i trashed one Dell XPS desktop because of a bios password blocking boot up
