    because the external monitor works, the motherboard's video chip is ok. Your problem lies in the cable(s) from the LCD panel to the motherboard, the LCD's Inverter, or its wiring

    It is too bad HP does not have an out of warranty to fix this, especially since it seems to be a common issue.

    The problem is not the cable, I have had mine changed and it made no difference, I have been told that it is the actual LCD itself.

    tmagic650, do you know, that every mobile videochip has two video outs: LVDS video-out and analog video-out. the problem with LVDS channel faulty is very common problem with faulty videochips.
