I would boot into BIOS. See if the Hard Drive is recognized there.

I can walk you through the booting into BIOS procedure if you need me to.

Yes.

If it is not showing up in BIOS, your hard drive may be shot. Do you have another machine that you can stick it into? Regardless that is never a good sign.

I have my desktop I am using here AMD Sempron 3300+

Well you can take the Hard Drive from that machine and put it into the one you are using now, and then boot into windows and see if anything shows up as a secondary drive. If it doesnt that the HD is dead. This is all of course if you are comfortable doing this.

using another hard drive with windows won't work. You'll get errors. XP is only licensed and configured for the specific motherboard it is loaded on.

It might load, but with errors.

Ahh I should of clarified. I mean booting with the native HD to the PC with the questionable Hard Drive set up as a secondary.

Time to say a prayer for my HDD, I went into chat with HP techs, my HDD is dead as a doorpost, thankyou al for your responses
