Ok, here we go so please bare with me. Got a Dell 8200, 2.53 p4. 850 chip set. After running 3d bench mark noticed that ht was diabled. When I ordered from dell that was the selling point at the time about 1 1/2 ago. Anyway had bad virus so I reformated deleting all partions, then reinstalled windows xp pro. I noticed it never performed as good as when I first got it from dell, but could never pin down the performance problem. After running the bench mark I think this is my problem. So I try to enter bios to enable but don't see the option for enableing it. Does anyone know what I can do? Just can't stand to call tech, my god please don't make me call tech....lol. I'm using f2 key to enter the bios, it shows normal stuff like clock time, cpu info, ram, and so forth. Is this the right key? Any help from you pro's would be highly appreciated! Thanks all!

As far as I know none of the 533 MHz bus P4 chips had hyperthreading. I believe they only arrived in the P4C chips.

    Edit:

Okay - maybe I wasn't exactly correct - but according to this info your processor still doesn't show up on the list of HT capable procs.

HT (as far as I know), wasn't introduced into P4 processors that "slow".

There's a good possibility you are the victim of a marketing gimmick. Perhaps the board is HT capable, but the chip isn't. Phrases like "HT ready / enabled" or "Includes HT technology" doesn't really state that the HT is in use.. But is available.

Ok, thanks guys, really appreciate the quick response. Thanks for taking time out to answere.

HT isn't a matter of speed as even the 2.4GHz P4C (the C being the 200MHz FSB parts) has HT enabled.

The problem is that the only P4B (the B being the 133MHz FSB parts) with HT is the 3.06GHz P4B.

If your board is HT capable, that means you can get a 3.06GHz P4B as an upgrade & have HT enabled.

FeTaLDaMagE, if after what everybody has told you, you still have any doubts, try downloading Hyper-Threading Technology Test Utility from Intel. It should tell you once and for all what you have.
