I have a USB flash drive that I use for my multimedia studies. When I try to copy and paste or cut and paste data from the usb drive onto my computer's hard-drive it comes up with an error message of the following:

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Below is some spec. information:

  • Astone USB 2.0 Mini 80x Flash Drive 256Mb
  • Microsoft Windows XP platform, AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 1.67GHz, 480 MB of RAM.

It never used to come up with this error message? The only pieces of data that will copy and paste are of very small size, whenever I try to copy and paste anything of a large size, the above error message appears.

It is very frustrating when I need certain pieces of data from this flash drive to work on at home.

If anyone could please give me any instructions or advise to help with this problem, it'd be muchly appreciated :)

The flash drive has gone bad maybe? They do that, you know ;)

Can you access the files using another computer?
