My problem happened anonymously.... one day i came home and my PC asked for a boot disk.... it comes down to my BIOS only reads 2 IDE devices at a time....

IDE 0 - HD Master & HD Slave
IDE 1 - CD-RW, DVD

so right now it reads only

IDE 0 - HD Master
IDE 1 - CD-RW

i've switched cables... and everything.... has to be BIOS or motherboard...

any suggestions?

you've got to ensure your jumpers on each drive are set properly. if it's on the end of a cable, then it'll be set to 'master', in the middle of the cable it'll be set to 'slave'. most drives have accessible jumper blocks on t he back and they indicate which position activates which mode.
