Do you always get the exact same message?

    it depends

if i have a cd in the drive i will get that message, but if there is no cd, it will just run the bios then restart. it will pretty much loop the bios until i turn off my computer. but when trying to run the cd i get this message.

Is your cd scratched or dirty perhaps?

no, the cd works fine, I had just used it on a different machine before. i don't think its the drive either because it doesn't work in either of the 2 cd drives

Does your bios "see" your hard drive and what type is it?

yeah, its a Quantum Fireballp AS2, the HDD should be fine. I installed windows on it already from a different machine before.

The next step would be to try different data cables if you have spares. The do tend to fail every now and again.
