Inspire 5.1

i just got an inspire 5.1 system for my pc and the center speaker is freakin out on me. it works fine when it performs the test, but when i play any ohter audio i get nothing. i have a sb live sound card which supports 5.1. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Yup, enable CMSS in PlayCenter if you want the Centre channel for stereo/mono encoded sources. It will degrade the sound quality somewhat so you'd be best off just getting used to Stereo X2 support the Live! has.
