Irql_not_less_or_equal message after new DVD drive

I have recently built a new PC and the DVDROM that i used was bad. now i have replaced it with a new one and now when i boot up, after about 10 seconds of the desktop screen, i get the blue screen of death.

im using Vista ultimate 32 bit

any suggestions?

You have disconnected it and proven that it is the cause?

No red or yellow flags in the Device Manager? You have sought out firmware updates for the DVD unit?
