Is this right about Radeon 9550's?

Radeon 9550 are basically rejected Radeon 9600 and 9600XT's that were suppose to end up in the trash can, but instead they were downgraded to 9550's?

sounds about right, according to this article http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/03/29/ati_preps_radeon/ i don't know about them supposed to have ended up in the trash though!
