My laptop detected a trojan virus and I ran my virus checker and found well over two hundred spyware. I clicked to remove these and rebooted my laptop. My laptop runs ok except I notice that the background picture was gone and the screen saver no longer ran. I tried to activate these but got an error message saying I needed to see the administrator. So I tried to go to the control panel to check my accounts but I can no longer locate the control panel. The computer seems to run fine as I can access explorer and get onto the web. I'm using Win XP and there was only one account set up on it. How can I fix this?

Please read this: Very Important: If your system is infected, read this before deciding whether to Clean or Format.

If after reading the above you wish to clean your system then do the following: Read Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread. But only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

Regards Jase :)
