hi,
first time building a PC for someone else, and really don't want to mess up - I have case, dvd/rw etc, just want to check this:

From the looks of things, yes those parts are all compatible. Power supply's usually don't have issues nor do video cards granted you have a PCI-E slot in which almost all new motherboards have. For the CPU it ends up being a little bit more vital when choosing a motherboard and processor but you picked two which will work fine together. Good luck with your build, hope you don't run in to any technical problems although sometimes that's half the fun.

@Rage_3K_Moiz - I am strictly on a budget and running a 9800GT on a 380w PSU is probably a bad idea - thanks for the suggestion though.
 
Not at all. That 380W PSU is more than sufficient for a 9800GT-equipped system. It also puts many 500W PSUs to shame when it comes to stable power delivery and efficiency.
