Keyboard lights flash when PC off

Hi,
I have a 2003 Compaq pc that I am fixing up for my grandmother. I had everything ready to go then the keyboard I was using had a loose cord and when it was taken out the pc started beeping. I had to unplug the tower from the wall.

Ever since then, with a new keyboard, the capslock, numlock and flock lights flash when the pc is shut off but not unpulgged, but works fine when the pc is on. I have tried many things and am starting to think that the old keyboard screwed up the motherboard. If this is the case will I have to replace the motherboard or just use a usb keyboard and mouse? And if anyone has any suggestions that would also be welcome.

Thanks

You mean they flash and then eventually stop?
Or they continue to flash?

If it's the first one that's ok

If it's cintinual flash, it could be a couple of things:
1. On a battery powered Keyboard, it just may not be compatable with that computer, try another keyboard (again)
2. Confirm there are no wakeup events in CMOS, or update your BIOS (Note: do this at your own risk)
3. Otherwise I'd say motherboard issue (Although don't replace it, just turn off the computer at the wall as well)

Thanks for such a speedy response:)

The flashing continues, and does not stop

Will definitely check the CMOS settings, as well as a BIOS update.

Thanks Again, stay tuned, I will post the results
