Lacking the Audio experience

    Here is my problem, for which I would love some help please:

    Up until a few days ago I had working audio on my computer, but for some reason it no longer appears to be working,
    Every time I plug the jack in to either the on board sound on the mother board, or the other generic sound card I have tried, it recognizes that the jack has been plugged in, although it doesn't play any sound. Help on this would be very much appreciated :)

    My comp specs, in case needed:

    M/board: Asus P5KPL-AM
    CPU: Q6600
    O/S: Windows 7
