The CD drive on my laptop stopped working on me a few days ago. When I remove it I get an error stating that "the device in the modular bay is not recognised". When I install it I get an error stating "no internal harddrive detected". I bought a new one and am getting the same problem with it.

    Any suggestions please?

It being a laptop, you are going to have to take it to a specialist im afraid.

    I was hoping I wouldn't have to.

Rik - In relation to your signature, why would you be against Norton? Sorry, but I don't know much about anti-virus software. Norton and McAfee seem to be the big ones.
