Laptop, Desktop, One Cable Internet Connection...help

Hi, here's the situation.

I have a desktop that has cable internet. I want to be able to use the same connection on my laptop. I have the basic self-installation stuff from the cable company - the box, etc. I'd like to be able to surf the net on my laptop wirelessly. How can I do this?

The easiest solution would be to go and buy yourself a wireless router.
Then please read the manual on how to set it up before asking.
