Tablet sales may be leveling off in mature markets like Europe and the US but manufacturers seem unfazed by the trend. Take Lenovo, for example. In addition to showcasing a brand new 17-inch gaming notebook and a budget gaming PC, the company announced a new Android tablet during IFA that’s drawing attention for all the right reasons.
This low-cost 8-inch Android slate is powered by Intel’s quad-core Atom processor (Bay Trail), the Z3745 to be exact. And just because it’s priced for the masses doesn’t mean Lenovo skimped on the screen as it operates at a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200.
There’s also 2GB of RAM alongside 16GB of flash storage. Around back is a modest 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 lens while a 1.6-megapixel shooter graces the front of the tablet. Other notables include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, dual front-facing speakers with Dolby technology and an unskinned version of Android 4.4 KitKat. 4G LTE connectivity will be an optional add-on.
The Tab S8 measures 0.31 inches (7.9mm) thick and tips the scales at 0.65 pounds, making it one of the lighter offerings in its category. Battery life is rated at around seven hours, we’re told.
Pricing for the Tab S8 starts at $199 which is significantly cheaper than some of the other 8-inch tablets already on the market. Expect to see the slate show up for purchase at major retailers and on Lenovo’s website later this month.
