LG targets multitaskers with new UltraWide all-in-one PC

LG added a new product to its lineup of All-in-one PCs today. The unconventional looking device features an IPS 21:9 UltraWide display and is powered by an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics chip. According to the press release, it will ship with Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system and come with a built-in TV tuner. Furthermore, the display offers 2560x1080 pixel resolution, and is accompanied by a matching keyboard and mouse. True to its name, this cinematically dimensioned PC truly is the whole package.

Interestingly, this isn’t LG's first foray into the still nascent category of ultra-wide consumer displays, releasing its very first 21:9 computer monitor at IFA 2012 just a year ago -- which we reviewed back in April. This time around, LG has continued to feed this emerging industry by adding three more monitors to its lineup of disproportionate displays: the 29EA73, 29EB73 and 29MA73.

So why would anyone want so much extra real estate? The main reason would be to facilitate multitasking. The IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC will offer a unique 4-screen split, as well as a cool picture-in-picture (PIP) feature to appease those who want to watch TV while simultaneously browsing the web.

Although the public has been provided with general specifications, further product details will be released at the IFA 2013 global innovations show being held from September 6th to 11th in Berlin. Information regarding worldwide availability as well the expected retail price should be released at this time.

Nice looking package. However, nothing about the spec except for the video system usually means there is really nothing there to be proud of, some Dog Inside... but, we'll see soon if I'm right about it...

You must be joking. As anyone who has used multiple screens on a single system will tell you, you never have enough desktop. 2560x1080 is a good amount as it compares nicely with my 2880x900 dual monitors. As a single screen it may be both better and worse than a dual set up in that it 'should' have a smaller footprint but would be less flexible(if need be I can stack mine one on top of the other or go side by side with portrait mode). When using multiple apps and windows it is much easier to keep track of where you are and what you are doing with One Big Display. If I were to get something like this I would probably end up adding a monitor or two to it anyway as I am that kind of guy.
