I'm wanting to build a solid HTPC with the ability to handle hi-definition playback and recording. If someone has a link they could pass on to me I would appreciate it. Or, I'd welcome anyone's input--particularly your recommendations on hardware, etc. Thanks.

    Welcome to Techspot!

Well HD recording you need to get your hands:

    http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/prods_hvr.html

Then for free software to use on the PC or media network boxes
    www.gbpvr.com or forums.gbpvr.com (I am there also)

I've built HTPC since 2004, another one in 2005, 2006.. Still use it everyday to record off the CableTV. Now for HD recording it's not offered to use on PC to record as of yet. Only with Motorola DCT 6416 DVR HDTV which I have it does record.

Thanks for the input Tipster. Why isn't HD recording through cable enabled for pc devices yet?
