So I graduated with a degree in Business Administration but my interest has always been in computer science and IT. I managed to land a job as an IT specialist at a private school in Atlanta. The network admin has been out a lot due to illness so I've been getting stepping into that role, learning a lot and getting some experience. I'm hoping to use this job as a stepping stone into network security or system admin in the business world. What would be the most valuable certifications or degrees to pursue to help me on my way?

This is all kinds of awesome. A TechSpot user asks the community for help - it responds miserably - the user goes 'well, stuff ya then' and goes on to ace it by themselves. Congratulations indeed! (y) (Y):)

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume everyone else was as lost as I was ?

Well, after 37 years and not much grey hair left, I'll fess-up that the industry as moved on from where I began. Days gone by, we used to P*** on the certs as they were only related to specific (aka M$) products and didn't apply well to other platforms or techniques. We hired those that could apply their knowledge to the problem(s) at hand.

Today we can apply lots of skills to Web programming. Network / DBMS are general fields and Security is ripe for new skills. The old R&D label is stretching thin and IMO, game programming is thinner than R&D for applications.

That's grandpa's $0.02
