Looking to monitor Shadow Copy daily volume backups

This is weirdly trickier than it seems, or should be.

What I mean by this is:

I have a number of Windows 7 machines still serving data/media/file storage duties. I enable default Shadow Copy backup settings on all their volumes, letting them run daily or semi-daily. Other backups run, but it's handiest to just pull from previous versions.

But occasionally I have seen it where the Shadow Copy volume setup just stops, for no apparent reason. I can check in manually, but it's an annoying check. I'm looking for a script or a tool that can monitor this in some way. Optimally something that can run as a scheduled task, check and log what "previous versions" exist, and send an email if it doesn't see any that any that have been created in a set interval. (48 hours or something.)

Does anyone have any ideas? Or know of a software tool that does explicitly monitor and inform about this?
