  1. I tried to install KDE 3 onto my Mandrake 8.2 twice :

First time, i installed mandrake 8.2 with kde2 and then added kde3 packages

    > the rpm manager told me the dependencies were not satisfied while the required packages actually were there

Second time I installed Mandrake 8.2 without Kde2 and then tried to add kde3

same problem, but now i can't even start the X server properly ...

    Someone can help ?

If you didn't install KDE2, was there another window manager? X looks quite plain without a window manager ;). Alternatively, you could install the packages from the command line but it won't be simple. It's done with rpm -iv *insert package here*. The catch is they need to be installed in proper order..

Doesn't it tell which dependencies are broken?
