Marvel has signed an agreement with Netflix that will see the publisher create four live-action superhero series and an Avengers-style special event that will be shown exclusively on the streaming video service. The first series will be based on Daredevil while the remaining three series will center on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Each series will consist of at least 13 episodes, we’re told. At the conclusion, in typical Marvel fashion, the superheroes will come together in a special Avengers-like miniseries called The Defenders. No word yet on how many episodes it will consist of, however.

Alan Fine, president of Marvel Entertainment, said in a statement that this serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.

True enough, it’s a pretty big get for Netflix as they continue to forge ahead with their original content movement. Netflix has seen tremendous success from the American political drama series House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey which won multiple Emmy Awards earlier this year.

And for Marvel, it serves as the biggest venture yet with regard to a television series. Needless to say, there’s a lot on the line for both companies as superhero fans will no doubt be watching with a close eye over the coming years.

Episodes are expected to begin airing sometime in 2015.

Just looking at the poster, what a mess this is going to be...!

A few years worth of ego-maniac nonsense pulling rabbits for arm-chair munchers with low self-esteem.

They forgot Man-Thing in the group picture. It was pretty low-budget and straight to video, but they did do a Man-Thing movie. Man-Thing only appeared in one scene... but he did look a lot like he appears in the comics, so they probably blew the whole special effects budget on that one scene. I guess the group photo is only for major studio releases?

Considering those are pictures from various movie studio movies I doubt it is a real Netflix/Marvel poster and just something put together by fans.

I kind of think that the picture looks cool. It shows how far Marvel's come with their cinematic universe. I remember growing up reading all these comics and how cool it was when someone like George Perez or John Byrne would draw an image with all the Marvel characters on them.

This is just a live action picture of the same thing. I think we've all gotten spoiled with the amount of super hero movies that have come out. It's a great time for us fans that grew up on this stuff.

Lol I was thinking about that myself when I noticed that old spider and hulk picture. Thought I was seeing things at first

I like the animated version, live action not the same. You can do more with cartoon version. Plus they're have good one liners . What about the Young Justice League give us season 3.
