Mass storage device icon shown as a file

The flash drive icon on my computer is being shown as a file and when i double click it , it says that access is denied, i can only access it through explorer now, is this a virus?

Probably not, but it is a flash drive that perhaps needs to be reformatted.

You should also be able to view it through disk management if in fact you dont have a virus. I have seen rootkit viruses affect what is displayed under My Computer and Disk Management. So try scanning your system.

your flash driver definitely has a virus...u see what a virus does is that it creates an autorun.inf file so that when the Drive is double clicked from My Computer the virus is executed rather than the drive...u can make sure whether its a virus or not by typing this in the address bar of ur Explorer: X:\autorun.inf .....X beiing the drive letter
