Meta thinks it can charge up to $17 per month to eliminate ads on Facebook and Instagram

Paying for privacy rights. Nice. And only $17??? Why so low Mark? Of course, 10 years from now, Meta will have to change it's name again when it's found that it was still taking all your data anyways.

Hell, there's a news or forum topic above that mentioned that Meta used our FB account info to train it's own AI.
For text, I'm sure that they have the right to do that due to anyone signing the EULA, but other things like photos are still protected under copyright law in many countries.

I wonder if all these companies will just set up their HQ in a tax haven country? No offices in countries with pesky laws to worry about. I have NO idea if that would work, but I feel like we're getting to that point.

With the help of uBlock Origin and Vivaldi's built in ad/cookie block and privacy badger I get for free what meta want to charge for so yeah no thanks Meta your offer isn't good enough

I'm fed up with all of these new fees, increases, you name it. Hitting everywhere. Inflation is SO bad that I don't see the economy hanging in there come 2024. Everything is just getting to be too damned expensive.

Fortunately deleting my Facebook (and Instagram and WhatsApp) accounts ~9 years ago didn't cost me a penny.

The whole point is that they are setting it at a price that is too high. That way people won't do it.

Taking away the people who would pay a reasonable monthly amount causes *everyone* to be worth less when they sell the ads. That is the worst case scenario for them.

It's funny because the ads were there for such a long time that most of the people (who didn't bother to use an adblocker, that is) don't even notice them anymore. Yeah, so now, charging as much as a Netflix premium tier for removing the ads is only going to lower their reputation even more.

I don't have any problem with this whatsoever....
I'd gladly pay a small fee.... to ADBLOCK PLUS DEVELOPERS and use their software for a cleaner web experience.
